Founded in 2004, Romengo has performed on four continents in more than 30 countries, representing Hungarian Oláh-Romani musical culture at prestigious world music festivals and concert halls. All three of their albums (Kétháné, Nagyecsed-Budapest, Folk Street) topped the World Music Charts Europe. Their mission is to showcase the power of cooperation between gipsy and non-gipsy people through music. They are proud of both their Hungarian and Romani heritage and feel a responsibility to preserve the Oláh-Gipsy culture as part of the nation. The band’s shining jewel is the wonderful voice of Mónika Lakatos, Kossuth Prize and Womex Lifetime Achievement Award winner.
