Experiencing the values of folk culture is essential for the complex development and education of children. Folk games and traditional dance improve children’s movement skills, body awareness, identity, and social sensitivity. When guided by dedicated educators, they also offer engaging, joy-filled recreational activities. The Örökség National Association of Children’s and Youth Folk Art was founded more than 25 years ago by Jolán Foltin, Kossuth Prize-winning choreographer, together with committed children’s dance teachers, based on these principles. The association is currently led by Szilveszter Siketáncz, dance pedagogue and choreographer, who turned to teaching after an 11-year professional dance career with the Hungarian State Folk Ensemble.
